Trump threatens Nigeria over alleged Christian killings
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Nigeria, threatening potential military intervention over what he described as the ongoing “killing of Christians.”
"If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, 'guns-a-blazing,'" Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
His remarks followed earlier claims that Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria, where he accused “radical Islamists” of carrying out “mass slaughter.”
"I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!" Trump declared, urging the Nigerian government to "move fast."
According to reports, Trump’s statements mirror rhetoric often used by far-right figures who frame Nigeria’s internal violence as religiously motivated assaults by extremists on Christians.
However, experts caution that such conflicts are far more complex, driven by a mix of political, ethnic, and economic tensions rather than purely religious divisions.
