Trump Does Not Want to be Involved in Netflix, Paramount Skydance Dispute
Trump’s comments mark a change from late last year, when he suggested he might personally intervene in a deal that could reshape the media landscape, according to NBC News.
“I haven’t been involved,” Trump told reporters in an exclusive interview. “I’ve been contacted by both sides, but I’ve decided I shouldn’t get involved. The Justice Department will handle it.”
He acknowledged the conflict between the companies: “One company argues it’s too big and shouldn’t be allowed to do this, while the other disagrees. They’re battling it out, and eventually, there will be a winner.”
In December, Netflix announced a $72 billion deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery’s movie studio, along with HBO and HBO Max. At the same time, Paramount Skydance, led by David Ellison, submitted a rival bid covering Warner Bros. Discovery’s cable networks. David’s father, Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, is a billionaire and known Trump supporter, highlighting the family’s influence in the media sector.
After Warner Bros. Discovery initially rejected Paramount’s bid and chose Netflix’s offer, Paramount launched a hostile takeover attempt. In response, Netflix converted its offer into an all-cash deal, widely viewed as a strategy to block Paramount’s challenge.
