OpenAI Faces Multi-State Inquiry
The subpoena requests extensive documentation covering numerous aspects of OpenAI's activities. These areas include advertising strategies, user acquisition and retention efforts, management of consumer and health-related information, matters involving minors and older adults, deep learning technologies, model sycophancy, and internal corporate policies. The report noted that the inquiry encompasses a broad spectrum of the company's operations.
In response to the subpoena, OpenAI issued a public statement addressing the matter.
"AI is a new and powerful technology, and we work every day to safely bring its benefits to people in a responsible way," said a company spokesperson. "We take the concerns raised by state attorneys general seriously and intend to engage constructively with their offices."
Earlier this month, Florida became the first state to initiate legal proceedings against OpenAI and its chief executive officer, Sam Altman. The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI and Altman "knowingly released an unsafe product and ignored warnings that it could harm users."
