U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda visits PMRF during Hurricane Lowell recovery operations

PACIFIC MISSILE RANGE FACILITY, KEKAHA, HAWAII (Sept. 16, 2026) – U.S. Representative, Jill Tokuda, who represents Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District, toured Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) Barking Sands on Sept. 10, 2026, to see storm-damaged facilities and recovery efforts firsthand. Tokuda met with PMRF Sailors, installation personnel, and PMRF Commanding Officer, Capt. Robert Prince, who provided updates on storm impacts, recovery operations, and mission readiness.

“Rep. Tokuda’s visit provided an important opportunity to highlight the storm’s impacts and the close connection between PMRF and the Kauai community as we recover from Hurricane Lowell,” said Prince. “We rely on many of the same lifelines and critical infrastructure across the island, and our recovery efforts are focused not only on restoring normal operations, but also on strengthening the resilience that supports both mission readiness and community well-being.”

As a major employer on Kauai, PMRF is deeply tied to the community it serves. Much of the installation’s 900+ workforce lives in west Kauai and is recovering from the same storm impacts at home and at work. The visit reinforced the importance of building greater redundancy in infrastructure and restoration of mission essential operations, while also recognizing the longstanding bond between PMRF and the local community through its workforce. As recovery continues, PMRF remains focused on restoring the critical assets needed to return to normal operations.
