Accounting Employers Want to Hire, but the Talent Shortage Is Getting Worse

Finance and accounting hiring is up, but skilled talent is scarce. UDallas’s Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business prepares professionals for these roles.

DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- New 2026 finance and accounting hiring data shows 74% of finance and accounting leaders plan to increase hiring during the second half of the year. At the same time, 61% of hiring managers say finding skilled professionals has become harder than it was a year ago.

The shortage is reaching day-to-day business operations. 75% of finance and accounting leaders say skills shortages caused project delays during the past year. Another 62% report canceled projects. U.S. employers posted 819,300 finance and accounting jobs in 2025, including more than 231,000 accounting positions. The unemployment rate for accountants and auditors was 2.0% in 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which is well under the national unemployment rate of 4.2%.

Senior accountant and staff accountant remain among the roles shaping 2026 hiring plans. Employers are also looking for professionals who can handle financial controls, analysis, and reporting as organizations put more pressure on finance teams.

The University of Dallas Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business, accredited by AACSB International, offers an MS in Accounting and an MBA with an Accounting concentration. The MS develops specialized accounting capability, while the MBA connects accounting study with broader business decision-making. Both sit within the college’s commitment to practical business education and responsible professional judgment.

The fully online MS in Accounting is a 36-credit-hour program designed for working professionals. Coursework covers financial and managerial accounting, tax, auditing, data analytics in accounting and financial statement analysis. The curriculum incorporates ethical case analysis in every MS accounting course and develops written and oral communication skills. The program prepares graduates to sit for the CPA exam.

With employers planning more finance and accounting hires as specialized talent remains difficult to find, the University of Dallas provides a route for professionals who need advanced accounting knowledge for roles employers continue to seek.

For professionals considering graduate accounting study, the choice is between specialized accounting depth and broader business preparation with an accounting focus. A University of Dallas graduate admissions counselor can help prospective students compare the MS in Accounting and MBA with an Accounting concentration, including prerequisites and how each aligns with their professional goals.
